The Saudi capital earned a resounding majority, with 119 out of 165 votes from member states of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions, confirming its position as the successor host to Osaka in 2025.

The Expo 2030 in Riyadh is anticipated to symbolize the pinnacle of Vision 2030, showcasing the Kingdom’s monumental achievements with a spotlight on hospitality, tourism, and culture. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman strategically showcased the bid during his visit to Paris in June, using an exhibition by the Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh to highlight Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage and cultural depth.

Unprecedented International Support

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan expressed gratitude to the 130 countries supporting the Kingdom’s bid, emphasizing unwavering commitment to collaborative efforts. The Kingdom pledged substantial support by providing facilities packages of $348 million to a pool of 100 eligible countries. High-profile endorsements from figures like Senator Natalie Goulet, Princess Lamia bint Majed, and Riyadh Mayor Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf underscored the global backing Riyadh Expo 2030 garnered.

Expo 2030 heralds massive infrastructure developments, including a substantial increase in hotel capacity by adding 70,000 new rooms. Accessibility is a key focus, with a newly developed metro linking Expo City to a reconstructed King Salman Airport, poised to become one of the largest aviation hubs globally. The launch of Riyadh Air, the Kingdom’s new airline, further enhances accessibility, offering flights to 100 countries by 2025.

The Riyadh Expo 2030 team, led by Ghida Al-Shibl, assures a world-class expo site with participant parcels and an expo village set to open by February 2028.
